Virgil “Rex” Larkey, 85 of Roanoke passed away at 8:45 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Canterbury Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Virgil served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked at Transport Motors in Fort Wayne for 24 years before becoming a private contractor. He was a reserve for the Huntington County Sheriff Department. Virgil was a past commander at the American Legion Post 160 of Roanoke. He collected military memorabilia and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Virgil was born on June 25, 1933 in Shelbyville, IN, the son of John and Lucille (Scutter) Larkey.
He was united in marriage to Mary Deemer on June 8, 1957 in Jonesburough, IN. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter: Tami (Leon) Hurlburt of Huntington; a son: Mike (Kelly) Larkey of Roanoke; four brothers: Jerry Larkey of Roanoke; John (Pam) Larkey of Whitley County; Dan (Jean) Larkey of Warren; Randy (Debbie) Larkey of Roanoke; a sister: Barbara (Bob) Covey of Huntington; four grandchildren: Jacob (Jessica) Hurlburt of Huntington; Alyssa (Daniel) Scher of Huntington; Mikayla Larkey of Ft. Wayne; Wyatt Larkey of Indianapolis and a great grandson: Jax Scher of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by a son: Mark Larkey, five brothers: Bill, Jack, Dick, Larry, Tommy Larkey and two sisters: Claire Teusch and Jane Smith.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Chris Hayden officiating.
Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.
