Waneta Mae Thomas, 88 of Roanoke, passed away Friday morning, January 30, 2026, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Waneta was a 1955 graduate of Huntington High School. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Roanoke. Waneta served as a den mother for boy scouts for many years. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy with her sisters and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Waneta was born on March 31, 1937, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Paul and Ruby (Matney) Drabenstot.
She was united in marriage to Nelson Thomas on March 5, 1961, at the Christ United Methodist Church in Roanoke. Her husband survives.
Additional survivors include two sons: Steve (Amy) Thomas of Roanoke, and David Thomas of Roanoke; two grandchildren: Ryan Thomas, and Darin Thomas; two sister-in-laws, and a brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Carrie Thomas; eight brothers: Lemoine Drabenstot, Eugene Drabenstot, Dwain Drabenstot, Lavon Drabenstot, Dean Drabenstot, Marvin Lee Drabenstot, Kenneth Drabenstot, and Roger Drabenstot; three sisters: Wiladean Searles, Janet Radtke, and Ilene Lahr.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday February 3, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, located at 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington IN 46750.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with one hour of calling prior to the service. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke.
