

JEWEL MAXINE MCCOMAS JENKINS, 88, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at her residence. She was born April 6, 1925, in Prichard, W.Va., a daughter of the late Herbert Walter and Nellie Billups McComas. Maxine was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alex Jerome Jenkins; a sister, Tommie McComas Graham; and four brothers, Frank, Jim, Paul and Bill McComas. Maxine graduated from Buffalo High School and attended the Huntington School of Business. She was a former tax preparer for Mylar's and H. & R. Block in Huntington and was a member of Baptist Temple, where she served in many capacities over the years and was chairman of the Board of Christian Education for several years. She was also a volunteer with the local literacy program and served as a tutor for those adults learning to read. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tim Clagg of Alpharetta, Ga., Pamela and Julio Diaz of Tulsa, Okla., and Paula and Terry Holley of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Nancy Jenkins of Napierville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Bethany Leftwich, Karen Grizzard, Jeffrey Clagg, Diana, Adriana and Carlos Diaz, David and Kyle Jenkins, and Katie Poti; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Julia, and Anna Leftwich, Colin and Emily Grizzard, Rex and Aravis Smith, and Alden Poti; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce McComas Kirk and Leonard Kirk of Galion, Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Doretta McComas, and Roger and Darlene McComas, all of Prichard, W.Va.; a brother-in-law, Douglas Graham of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Sandra McComas of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Adele White of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Baptist Temple with her son-in-law, Rev. Terry Holley, and her Pastor Andrew Magnusson officiating. Friends may meet with the family in the fellowship hall of the church from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. Graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.
