MR. JOHN WESLEY CHAPMAN, 89, of Gallatin, Tenn., formerly of Huntington, passed away on Dec. 1, 2012. He was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Glenwood, W.Va., the son of the late Lewis E. Chapman and Zelma Griffis Chapman, one of seven children. Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Naomi Alene Chapman, of 69 years. He is survived by five children: Darlene Folger of Indian Land, S.C., Joyce Overstreet of Monroe, N.C., Rita Biffle of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Marsha Cox of Hendersonville, Tenn., and John Wesley Chapman, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. John was the beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. For the past 25 years, John and Alene made their home in Gallatin, Tenn., where he was a member of the Hartsville Pike Church of Christ. He was a proud veteran, having served in the US Army's 104th Infantry Division, the Timberwolves, in the European Theater of World War ll. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service, conducted by minister Alan Cole, immediately following at Henson Mortuary in Barboursville. The burial service will be at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 139 and the West Virginia Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the missionary work at Hartsville Pike Church of Christ in Gallatin, Tenn.
