

Jack Edward Reeves Sr., 85, of Huntsville, Texas, died on June 24, 2012. Born on April 21, 1927, to Clyde and Gracie Reeves in Weldon, Houston County, Texas, Jack was one of seven children. He is preceded in death by his father, Horace Clyde Reeves of Huntsville, his mother, Gracie Knighten Reeves of Huntsville, his sister, Modene Reeves Stephenson of New Braunfels, his brothers, Horace Reeves of Huntsville, Morris Reeves of Crosby and Thomas Ray Reeves of Huntsville. He is survived by his eldest sister, Madene Reeves of Huntsville and his youngest sister, Nell Reeves Smith of Port Neches; his wife Amelia Reeves of Huntsville, his daughter, Suzanne Reeves Strickland of Tyler and his son, Jack Edward Reeves Jr. of Port Neches.
Jack enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Jennifer Strickland Burwell of Hewitt, James Edward Reeves of Atascocita and Whitney Suzanne Reeves Henson of Port Neches, in addition to his three great-grandsons, Austin, Preston and Mason Reeves of Atascocita, Texas.
He was a veteran of The United States Army’s 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment, enlisting during the Second World War and Re-enlisting during the Korean conflict. He served in both the European and Asian Theatres and was also a member of The Allied Occupation Forces in Germany and Japan, serving in the 11th and 13th Airborne Divisions.
He began his civilian career as an employee of The Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville, Texas, but was eventually recruited by the petrochemical industry in Orange, Texas, serving as a safety Supervisor for The Firestone Petrochemical facility in that city.
Jack retired and began his own real estate business in the later seventies and spent most of his time in East Texas in the company of friends and relatives.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M., on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Huntsville Funeral Home, with services to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Joseph Lee of The Gulf Avenue Church of Christ in Groves, Texas, officiating. Interment will follow at Cashner‘s Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.
