
Louise Catherine Laskie of Riverside, Texas passed away October 29, 2012, at Conroe Regional Hospital. Louise was born in Pinedale, Texas, to Harmon and Ena Strickland on August 8, 1924. She was the firstborn of their eight children. Louise is preceded in death by her parents; brother: Bubba Strickland; sisters: Minnie Ola Alewine and Annie Mae Nichols. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Luther Laskie; daughter: Carolyn Laskie; sisters: Ellen Gardner, Lorene Morris, Dorothy Arnold, and Betty Pierce; numerous other relatives and friends; and her very active and loveable pet dog, Buddy.
After graduating from Huntsville High School, she attended Durham Business School in Houston, Texas. She married Luther, the Army Sergeant love of her life, on August 11, 1945, in Huntsville, Texas. Together they raised their daughter, Carolyn, in Huntsville always participating and becoming very involved in her interests and activities. Louise coached a Lassie League Softball team, and she was also the #1 best pitcher in the Women’s Softball League. She did work a very short time for a local dentist but soon retired to be a stay-at-home mom, homemaker, and volunteer with the Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She loved to sew, play the piano, fish with a cane pole, mow the lawn with a push mower, vegetable gardening, and she was a very speedy “hands-on” milker of the family cow. In 1969, Louise, Luther and Carolyn moved to the small city of Riverside, Texas. Here she worked long hours helping Luther as he developed the Pleasure Hill Subdivision in Riverside, and they enjoyed fishing together and just boat riding in the Trinity River. Ther home was the center of good eating and good times at many catfish cookouts. Louise was also a member of the First Christian Church in Huntsville for over 60 years.
Visitation will be held 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, at the First Christian Church located at 1800 Ave. R in Huntsville, Texas. The funeral service will also be at the First Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, with Reverend Kyle Dennis officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Pioneer Cemetery located at Hwy. 19 and Front Street in Riverside, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, P. O. Box 11189, Huntsville, Texas 77340.
