Donald L. Foley, 63, of Hyannis; formerly of Watertown, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, November 15th, 2019, due to complications from cancer.
Donald was born and raised in New Bedford, MA, where he grew up with humble beginnings; participating in Boy Scouts and working his paper route. At age 16, in 1972, Don relocated with his family to Cape Cod. His parents opened a boarding house in Yarmouth Port, known as Ye Ole Homestead; where he and his brother John worked on renovations.
While living in Cape Cod, Donald developed a love for commercial fishing, after his father found him a job on his first fishing boat. When the crew would dock after long stints at sea, they would party as though ‘it was their last day on earth’. During one of these celebrations, Donald was at a local fishing bar, formerly known as ‘The Windjammer’. While playing pool, he met the love of his life, Maureen; whom he would soon marry and have two daughters with. Don was often “razzed” by his fellow crewmates for being so head-over-heels, and missing her. He eventually traded his love for the sea, for his love for Maureen. He left the fishing industry to move to the greater Boston area, where he began his own business ‘DLF Construction & Design’. Don often spoke of his life's greatest joy, and achievement as being blessed with two wonderful daughters, and watching them grow into beautiful, accomplished woman.
In his later years, Donald suffered from a myriad of health issues related to his kidneys, liver, diabetes, and ultimately cancer. Though his battle was difficult and often overwhelming, he never lost his positivity and optimism; living by the motto “attitude is everything”.
Donald was loved, and supported until the very end by his AA community, as well as his motorcycle club, ‘The Resurrected’. Donald will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Shannon T. Foley of Breckenridge, CO, and Kimberly C. O’Hearn; as well as her husband Tyler O’Hearn of Holbrook, MA; his ex-wife Maureen Foley of Watertown; his brother Paul Foley, and his children Rachael and Rebecca Foley; his brother John and his children Corinne and Jack Foley. He was predeceased by his parents T. Luella Menard Foley and John Foley of Centerville, MA, as well as his sister Jill Allen Foley of Palm Coast, FL.
