Alfred “Fred” Joseph Fournier of Orleans, MA (formerly of Hyannis), passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the age of 91. Fred leaves his wife of 68 years, Nancy Louise Fournier (McGraw), his three daughters: Anne Marie Dangler and her husband Daniel of Waltham (formerly of Wellesley), Linda Nickerson and her husband Allen of Orleans, Christine Rono and her husband Nathaniel of Belmont. Fred also leaves five grandchildren: Ben and Kasey Nickerson, Hannah Dangler, Amelia and Heidi Rono.
Fred was predeceased by his two brothers, Ernest and Bertrand Fournier and his sister, Pauline. He has two surviving brothers: Roland Fournier of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Paul Fournier of Bristol, Rhode Island.
Fred was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on July 24, 1930 to Ernest Paul Fournier and Regina Fournier (Brunelle) of Pawtucket. Fred attended St. Raphael’s Academy in Pawtucket and Providence College. He served four years in the Navy on the USS Antietam during the Korean Conflict.
Before owning his own business, Hubbard and Fournier Petroleum in Hyannis, Fred was Vice President of Drake Petroleum in Auburn, MA as well as Chairman of the Independent Marketers Association of New England and President of Amoco Associates of New England.
In his volunteer work in Pawtucket Rhode Island, Fred was President of the Veterans Council, as well as a Commander in the Amvets in Pawtucket. While living on Cape Cod, Fred volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Fred was an avid golfer and a member of the Cummaquid Golf Club since 1974. He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame football. Fred had a great sense of humor - he loved to laugh, enjoyed great food, and listening to Frank Sinatra and Big Band music. He received the most joy watching his family being together and he always had a way to make everyone around him feel loved.
The Fournier family would like to give a very special thanks to staff on the second floor, Kennedy Unit, at The Pavilion Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Hyannis for the exceptional care and love given to Fred this past month.
Visitation hours are on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 9-10:30 am at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., Hyannis, MA, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier church, 347 South St., Hyannis, MA. Fred will be buried at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made in Fred’s honor to the Heroes in Transition organization of Cape Cod.
