He was born in Arlington, Ma. to the late Guy Keirstead and Eva Lax Keirstead. He attended Arlington public schools, graduating in 1962. In high school Allan excelled at sports, both football and ice hockey, serving as co-captain for the varsity hockey team. He was honored with both the Boston Globe All Scholastic Award and the Fred V. Ostergren Sports Award.
He graduated from Boston College in 1966 and continued on to obtain his Masters in Business
Administration from the Boston College Carroll School of Management. While at Boston College he held
the esteemed position of Captain of the Boston College Varsity Ice Hockey Team.
After the completion of his Masters Program he began his financial career as an accountant for the
National Casket Company of Boston. He joined Stan Home/ Enesco in 1969 as the company’s
Comptroller. His career with this corporation spanned four decades, during which time he was
promoted to Chief Financial Officer and served as a Corporate Director. In addition, he served as a
director for a number of local banking and business boards. He also pursued his love for hockey by
volunteering to coach his son’s Holyoke Youth Hockey Team.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen Louise Switzer Keirstead of 48 years, his devoted children Michael
and Heather, his grandchildren Alexis Simons and Aidan Rist, as well as his ever-faithful dog, Kirby. He
also leaves behind his cousins Richard Morris and Peter Lax.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Allan at Doane Beal & Ames at 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, Ma on Saturday, April fourteenth from 11:30am to 1pm.
