Ann Marie (Bruno) Foster, recently of West Yarmouth MA and previously of Marstons Mills, passed away peacefully on December 24, surrounded by her loving family, including her husband of 62 years, Tyler Herbert. While Ann suffered over the last few years with Alzheimers, she never lost her beloved smile that so many people had encountered throughout her life.
Ann was born in Boston and grew up as an only child on Albion Street in Somerville MA. She graduated high school in 1947, and was the class Vice President. It was in Somerville that she met her future husband and awaited his return from marine service, before being married in 1952.
After being married, Ann and Tyler settled in Burlington MA in 1954. There, they literally built their first home in an old apple orchard on Lexington Street. Ann held several jobs, including employment at Mitre and Lincoln Labs. In 1962, they gave birth to their first child, Tyler Thomas; followed two years later with the birth of their daughter, Lynne Ann.
Once the children arrived, Ann became a committed housewife, and was a regular fixture at local hockey, baseball, and soccer games, along with area dance recitals. She was a faithful parishioner of St Margaret’s Church, always sitting in the back pew so no one could hear her singing. Ann loved to cook and had several classics including Roman Holiday, Annisette Cookies, and Date Nut Bread, to name just a few. She enjoyed her summers at Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, and then at Thompson Lake in Otisfield ME. Ann was an avid water skier, yet did not know how to swim! She was blessed to be able to travel to many neat USA destinations, plus special trips to Europe, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal (while the rest of us were snowed in by the Blizzard of 1978!). Ann was a friend to the Belmont Hill alumni and Women’s Dartmouth Club of Boston, while remaining active in SHS Class Planning & Events.
In 1986, now empty nesters, Ann & Tyler built and moved to a home in Hyannisport MA, located one bad golf shot away from the 1st tee at the country club. There, Ann enjoyed time with the “tennis girls” playing multiple times a week followed by lunch at the club. Family birthday parties and Easter egg hunts with the grand children become annual events “on the Cape”. Always having a very special place in her heart for her religion, Ann became a devoted parishioner at St Francis.
In 2001, Ann & Tyler downsized, moving to Marstons Mills, where they resided until their recent move to Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth. In her later years, she enjoyed daily walks and coffee with her husband in downtown Hyannis and winter walks in the Recreation Center. Thanksgivings at her daughter’s house and Christmases with the family, especially with the grandchildren were great sources of joy for her. At age 80, Ann capped her traveling years with a birthday celebration weekend trip to NYC with her husband, keeping a pace that had her son and daughter-in-law huffing and buffing.
In addition to her husband and two children, Ann is survived by her daughter- in- law Wendy Gibson Foster and blessed with four wonderful grandchildren – Tyler C, Danielle, Jordan, and Alexandra.
At the family’s request, services will be private.
