OBITUARY

Antonia "Tanya" Fortenberry-Silva

December 23, 1943February 11, 2020

Antonia Fortenberry-Silva, known to many as Tanya, left this earth on February 11th, 2020. She was 76 years old and for all those years, warmed our hearts and was a true joy to all.

Born and raised in New Bedford, MA, she spent most of her adult life in Hyannis, MA. She enjoyed being around people, as shown by her life long career as a waitress where she found joy with the many she worked with and around.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother—a woman of beauty, character, strength and fierce love for her family. She showed us all what resilience and perseverance truly look like; never quitting to the very end.

Antonia is survived by her husband Antonio (Tony); her sons, Gary and Douglas Brito; and her daughter Lisa Fortenberry-Spaloss. She had four grandsons, Matthew, Patrick, Malik and Myles; and one granddaughter, Savannah.

They invite you to join them for a memorial service at 12:30 pm on Friday, February 21st, 2020 at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601.

As per Antonia’s wishes, her ashes will be scattered in a bed of flowers that will blossom as beautiful as she was to us all.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Boston Medical Center, Office of Development, 801 Massachusetts Avenue, First Floor, Boston, MA 02118-2393. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I am saddened to hear that Tanya has left us. The Lord has taken her home to a better place. Tanya was a beautiful lady inside and out. I haven't seen her in a long time but anytime I was in her presence was always a pleasure. Beautiful lady rip

Gary, Douglas and Lisa,
We are sorry for your loss of your beloved mother. She is a loving spirit gone home to shine brightly forever. Over 50 years ago meeting your beautiful young mother on Old Yarmouth rd and seeing her through the years, she never changed. A strong, proud mother, her love for you showed. She was eager to give an update on her kids.
Beautiful on the inside and out she never failed to offer a bright smile and soft kind words to others. Tanya was just one of those people who you were always pleased to see. There was strength and compassion in the warmth of her genuine greeting. She was much loved. You are in our prayers. May God bless you and give you peace.

To my sister. Our lives were interesting to say the least. Even though we did not grow up together, it’s amazing how many similar experiences we shared. I hold dear The long talks we had about our sorrows and triumphs. Every smile and every tear held so much memory for us. But through it all there was love. Especially for our children and our grandchildren and our family. Everyone has a journey. I hope at the end of it all we can say that we gave it all we could. I think, Tiny, and that’s what I have always called you - even when you were Miss New Bedford - through it all my sister there was love. I miss you. I honor you. I will never forget you.
