
Born in the Bronx, NY in 1950 and eldest daughter of Roy W. Anderson and Evelyn “Ruth” (Johnson) Anderson. She found her calling in her early 30’s when she went back to school and earned her LPN designation. She spent several years as a school nurse for the Carmel Central School District in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. She also worked for many years as a pediatric nurse in a private group practice in Carmel, NY. She realized her dream of living full time on the Cape in 1993 and spent the last 16 years as a nurse in the adult residential program with Latham Centers Inc. She spent her free time with family and friends bringing joy and creating lasting memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years Matthew M. Scavarelli of Centerville; a daughter Dawn Marie Dettmering, a son-in-law Eric, a granddaughter Kathryn and a grandson Alexander of Danbury, CT; a son Anthony J. Scavarelli, a daughter-in-law Kimberly and two grandsons Jacob and Quinn of Concord, NH; a sister Gladys Johnson, a brother-in-law David and two nephews and a niece Eric, Andrew and Britta also of Centerville; a sister-in-law Jeanne LaSage of Watertown, NY; and her mother-in-law Marie Scavarelli formerly of Yonkers and Carmel, NY.
Family and friends are invited to attend pay their respects on Wednesday, March 16th from 3pm - 6pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis. She’ll make her final trip home to NY on Thursday, March 17th. Family and friends are again invited to pay their respects on Friday, March 18th from 3pm - 6pm at Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303, Tappan, NY. A funeral service at Moritz will be held Saturday morning followed by a burial at the Tappan Dutch Reform Church Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation in Barbara’s name be made to one of the following: The American Cancer Society, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, or the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich.
