Beverly Ann (Johnson) Larson of Duxbury, Eastham, and Yarmouth passed away peacefully on September 25th, 4 days shy of her 91st birthday. Born in Quincy to Evelyn (Olson) and Bertill Johnson, she grew up in the Wollaston Beach section of North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1952. She attended New England Deaconess School of Nursing and earned her R.N. in 1956. She and her husband Frank were married in Quincy in 1957 and lived a few years in Weymouth and Virginia before putting down roots in Duxbury in 1970, where they raised their 3 children.
Beverly was very active in the Pilgrim Church of Duxbury and was one of the founding members of the Duxbury High School Gridiron Club. When Chandler Elementary School was built in 1974, Beverly was hired as their first School Nurse. She loved children and had a natural, nurturing way about her that made all the students feel safe and cared for.
Her love of family meant that holidays with her nieces & nephews were always a special time, whether Christmas in Duxbury or summers on the Cape. And homemade pizza on Sunday nights became a family tradition – especially during football season!
Bev and Frank retired to Eastham in 1990 and spent the next 25 years travelling the country in a series of RVs, often gone for months at a time and eventually visiting all 50 states. There were non-US adventures as well, including Mexico, Germany, and Australia. They made wonderful friends on the road – an early trip to Alaska resulted in friendships and reunions that lasted for decades.
The travelling lessened a bit in the early part of the new millennium, as they were the caregivers to Bev’s mother Evelyn who passed away in 2009 at age 106. Beverly also volunteered in Orleans with the Lower Cape Outreach (Katie’s Korner).
Family, Faith, and Friendship were the 3 pillars of the Larson household – everyone was welcomed and loved, with a special place reserved for fellow Swedes! She had an eye for clever crafts; there was always a project underway.
She is survived by her devoted husband Frank of Yarmouth, her sister Shirley Doppler of Fort Meyers, FL, and her 3 children: Jeff (Martha) Larson of Canton, Alan Larson of Eastham, and Sharon (Greg) Schmidt of Harvard. She adored her 5 grandchildren, Hannah (Larson) Andrade (Ricky) of Mansfield, Matthew Schmidt of Somerville, Sam Larson of Miami, Jonathan Schmidt of Shrewsbury, and Jenna Larson of NYC.
Funeral services will be private and at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Lower Cape Outreach or Broad Reach Hospice.
