Dan was born in Chicago, IL to the late Paul and Mary Cronin. He grew up on the Southside of Chicago and graduated St. Ignatius High School. He also served in the US Army.

Dan married Jeanne Marcoux in August 1959, whom he loved dearly for 52 years. They had four sons, Michael, Mark, Jim and John. Dan and Jean provided their sons with a Catholic education at St. Linus Grammar School and Marist High School. Their childhood was filled with many happy moments including summer vacations in Northern Wisconsin. He was a devoted husband, a great father and lived his life with integrity and deep faith. He was a gentleman and a generous person.

Dan ran a successful business called Illinois Collection Service for many decades, which all his sons had worked. He served as President of the Civic organization Sertoma Club in Evergreen Park, IL. He over saw the construction of the Sertoma Job Training Center in Alsip, IL in 1971, which still serves the disabled for over 50 years later.
