With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of David S. Miller, age 80, of Barnstable Village. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David was the beloved husband of Roberta S. Miller, cherished father of Adam Miller and his wife Rhonda of Hopedale, MA, and Lori Miller Taraborelli and her husband Steven of Medway, MA. He took immense pride in his five grandchildren- Joshua, Avery, and Mathew Miller, and Andie and Emma Taraborelli- attending countless soccer matches, baseball and basketball games, tennis matches, horseback riding shows, and gymnastics events to cheer them on.
He is also survived by his brother Martin Miller and sister-in-law Adele, sister-in-law Susan Maguire and her husband Tim, and his cousin Abbott Davidson of Hyannis. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephew; Sarah Burns and Julia Maguire, daughters of Susan and Tim; and Howard Miller, son of Martin and Adele. David will also be deeply missed by his lifelong friends from New Bedford--Larry Martin, Skip Shapiro, and Jim Wollison- fondly known as "The Four Aces."
Born in New Bedford, MA, David graduated from New Bedford High School and Northeastern University, later earning his MBA from Suffolk University. He began his professional career at Sylvania in Needham, which later became General Dynamics, where he served as Director of Government Accounting until his retirement in 2004. He and his family lived in Milford, MA, where his children attended the local public schools.
In the early years of his marriage, David served as a medic in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War. He also volunteered as a Big Brother, forming a meaningful bond with a young boy, sharing his love for sports, bowling, and mini golf.
In 2021, David and Roberta moved to Barnstable, where he embraced the Cape's scenic beaches, vibrant dining scene, and his lifelong passion for golf. He was a proud member of both Old Barnstable Golf Club and Hyannis Golf Club, where he served as Chair of the Golf Committee for several years.
A true sports enthusiast, David was a basketball referee at local high schools in the Milford area during the 1990s. He was a loyal Red Sox fan and held season tickets to Patriots games in both Boston and Foxboro.
David was a dedicated member of Temple Beth Shalom in Milford and, more recently, found joy in attending High Holiday services with his son's family at Temple Beth Torah in Holliston.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 beginning at Doane Beal and Ames Funeral home, 160 W Main St, Hyannis at 10:00 AM with a burial immediately following at Mosswood Cemetery, Barnstable, MA. Friends and family are invited to gather after the burial at David's home at 214 Carriage Lane in Barnstable.
