Dawn Elizabeth Barr was born and raised in Meriden, Connecticut, and graduated from Francis T. Maloney High School in 1965. In 1967, she married Robert Francis “Bob Mac” McLean, and together they built their family on Cape Cod and raised their daughter, Ann.
Dawn was a strong, independent woman with a personality all her own. She loved her family, her friends, and having a good time. She made people smile, and over the years she built lasting friendships wherever life took her.
She was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother. Her grandsons gave her the nickname “Grandma the Queen,” and she wore the title proudly. She cherished holidays and summers on Cape Cod with her family, and loved sharing the places, foods, and experiences she loved with her grandchildren.
Dawn worked throughout her life, including at International Silver, Air New England, Mister Donut, and Barnstable Community Innovation School. Each chapter brought its own experiences and friendships, with some of her most lasting friendships coming from her years at Mister Donut. At the school, she was affectionately known as “Miss Dawn” by the children.
After Bob's death in 1995, Dawn found companionship with Kenneth “Murry” Robinson, who became an important part of her life until his death in 2013. In the years that followed, Dawn continued to surround herself with friends, family and people who brought her happiness. More recently, she shared a special friendship with Michael, whose companionship brought her many smiles.
Dawn loved going on motorcycle rides, bowling, rock concerts, buying into the NASCAR pools at the Quarterdeck, and heading down to Giardino’s “G’s” to watch the Patriots. She enjoyed quahogging, eating her favorite whole-belly clams, and spending time with friends. She loved the friendships and camaraderie that came with the motorcycle community and the adventures that came along with it.
Dawn was predeceased by her husband, Robert Francis “Bob Mac” McLean; Kenneth “Murry” Robinson; and her beloved grandson, Joel Theodore Hanson.
She leaves behind her daughter, Ann Hanson, and her husband, Geoff; grandchildren Dylan Robert Hanson and Justin Patrick Hanson and their wives, Monica Marie, and Haley Breanne; and great-grandchildren Spencer Ann Hanson, Noah Douglas Hanson, and Curran Joel Hanson. She also leaves behind dear friends and loved ones who will miss her.
Dawn was pretty darn special. She made people smile, loved the people who mattered to her, and knew how to enjoy the life she was given. She will be deeply missed.
