February 9, 1937 – Mach 3, 2012
Dorothy Clarkin of West Yarmouth has passed peacefully into eternity on March 3, 2012. We believe her passing was due, in part, to a broken heart from the short-lived life of her sister and best friend Mary M. Shannahan, who passed away a week earlier, almost to the hour. You both will be missed.
Born in Holyoke MA, February 9, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John Shannahan and Dorothy (Mahon) Shannahan. May our lord forever embrace you and keep you in his care.
After graduating Chicopee High School, Dorothy moved to Connecticut where she was employed by Savage Arms for over 26 years, Dorothy married Fredrick Clarkin, later they retired and moved to the cape where she worked part-time for the Barnstable School System as a bus driver for children with special needs. Dorothy loved a good meal and adored her two sisters. She was caring, giving, enjoyed boating, bowling and reading.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Frederick Clarkin, brother James Shannahan and his wife Marilyn, and sister Mary. She is survived by her sister Joan Otto and husband Jack Otto, her step daughters Karel and Lynette and their children, nieces Linda, Karen, grand niece’s Lauren, Nicole, nephews Justin, John, Mark and Troy, grand nephew Eric, and great grand nieces and nephew. All the laughs and the memories will never be forgotten.
Family and friends may visit 2pm till 3pm with a service to follow on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Doane Beal & Ames, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis. A Celebration of Life service will be held in May with burial at that time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Shea’s Youth Basketball Association, 10 Blue Rock Road South Yarmouth, MA 02664. This is a non-profit basketball league for troubled youth in the Hyannis area.
