OBITUARY

G. Parker Carpenter

December 23, 1925March 20, 2014

G. Parker Carpenter "The Music Man", husband of Joyce Bissell Carpenter and leader of the annual Standish Way 4th of July parade, was released from his earthly duties on March 20, 2014.

He is survived by his children: Kristen Mellecker and her husband Jeff of Maryland, Dana and his girlfriend Debbie of Groton, Sarah Gilrein and her husband Sean of Charlton, Jeff and his wife MJ of Marstons Mills, many close relatives and friends.

He found his greatest joy in his nine grandchildren, whom he affectionately called his "bloomin' idiots": Chris, Taryn, Jamie, Courtney, Sam, Taylor, Zack, Ali, and Riley, who all cherished their time with "Boompa".

A navy veteran, he enlisted in May of 1944, and would often boast that the war ended the day he shipped out because they knew he was coming. After graduating from RPI in 1949 he began his career in architecture in Greenfield Massachusetts. Later, he married and moved to the Cape, eventually becoming co-owner of Gaffney and Associates in Hyannis.

He was a man who loved his family, the morning crossword, the Boston Pops, and warm afternoons on Bustins Island. He was passionately dedicated to youth hockey and the First Baptist Church, where he held many positions throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA of Cape Cod (434 Rt 134, Suite D3, South Dennis) and the First Baptist Church (486 Main Street, Hyannis).

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, March 24 at 1pm at the First Baptist Church in Hyannis.

Dear Carpenter Family,
I recall Mr. Carpenter circa 1966 giving me a ride to Hyannis West Elementary school with Kristen in the Edsel station wagon. A great memory of my childhood. I'm so sorry for your loss.
