Gloria (Hopkins) Gillespie
Mashpee/Westwood - Gloria H. Gillespie passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.
Born in New York City, Gloria attended Our Lady of Lords Academy. She is a 1947 graduate of Manhattanville College and did her post graduate studies at Columbia University. With a Bachelor in Nursing, Gloria worked for many years at French Hospital in New York City.
She resided in Westwood for 30 years and was a long standing member of the 125 Club, The Westwood Women’s Club and The Westwood Garden Club. She also enjoyed singing with the Intergenerational Group and was a volunteer of the American Red Cross. She was an avid bridge player at the Barnstable Senior Center every week.
She is predeceased by her parents, Vida and William Hopkins of New York City, her sister Ann Hopkins of Stratford, CT and her husband William J. Gillespie of Westwood, MA.
She is survived by her 4 children, Ann Armour and her fiancé Mark Farrell of Plum Island, MA, William P. Gillespie and his partner Steven Richter of Tampa, FL, Mary Joyce and her husband Thomas of Centerville, MA and Catherine Dillon and her husband Matthew of West Barnstable, MA, 10 grandchildren; Catherine, Mark, Meredith, Kevin, Alison, & Madeline Armour, William & Shannon Joyce, Anna & Matthew Dillon and her great-grandson, Nicholas Armour. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A special thanks to the wonderful medical staff at Cape Cod Hospital for all your compassion and care.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street Hyannis, MA.
Her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 9:30 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood, MA. Burial will follow at the New Westwood Cemetery.

I remember Gloria very well back in 1981 and 1982 in the family home in Westwood. She was very familial, loving, with a great sense of humor. She is in my thought and prayers. My condolences to Ann and family.

My condolences to the entire Gillespie family. While I never had the pleasure of meeting Bill or Mary's Mom, I know that she raised children that are kind, smart, and good. May time & memories ease your pain.
