OBITUARY

Janice T. Kapp

March 13, 1930November 4, 2021

West Barnstable—Janice Talbot (Bassett) Kapp, 91, passed away peacefully at home on November 4th, surrounded by family. Janice was born in East Providence, RI to George E. Bassett, and H. Alice Bassett.

As a young woman being a trained vocalist, she sang with big bands at Crescent Park. During her first marriage, which ended in divorce, Janice had three children. She was very active in the community, serving as the president of the PTA, teaching Sunday school, and was one of the founders of the John Wickes PTA kindergarten. Janice sewed and knit clothing for her children, even dolls clothing. An adventurous spirit, she took her teenage daughter and her daughter’s friend to the Woodstock music festival.

In 1971, she met the love of her life, Martin Kapp, and they shared 48 happy years of marriage. They enjoyed sailing on their boat, traveling across the country and to Europe. In later years, Janice was a prolific cross stitcher, and talented painter.

Janice is predeceased by her son, James S. Britcliffe; a granddaughter, Isabella Joy Germano, and her brother, Ed Bassett. She is survived by her husband Martin, daughter Jill Britcliffe Kobeissi (Mahmoud), daughter Joy Britcliffe, stepdaughters Vicki Harchik (Arnie), Wendy Kapp, and Kristie Kapp Nelson (Mark). She also is survived by 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family asks that if you want to honor Janice’s memory, please make a donation to the VNA of Cape Cod Hospice, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA, 02601. In her brief time under their care, she was treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.
