
Born in West Roxbury, she was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury and of Emmanuel College in Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Prendergast.
Surviving are their three children, Steven J. Prendergast and his wife, Jeanne of Sandwich, Janice M. Cayan and her husband, Peter of Hyannisport, with whom she resided, David J. Prendergast and his wife, JoAnne of Gainesville, VA; as well as six grandchildren.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Prendergast lived in Jamaica Plain and in West Roxbury. She was a volunteer Gray Lady for the Red Cross, an encephalographer at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, a telephone service representative for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. and a volunteer Deputy Probation Officer in Girls Juvenile Court in Boston. She was a member of the Gathering Grandmothers of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
After her marriage, the family moved to Ravena, NY. She taught second grade in the Coxsackie-Athens School District for many years before retiring to West Hyannisport in 1980.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street in Hyannis. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Avenue in Cotuit.
