

John Frederick Watters, 64, a livelong resident of Barnstable Village, died peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Cape Cod Hospital. He was the son of the late Robert H. and Shirley (Davenport) Watters and brother of the late Robert H. Watters, Jr. and his wife Beverly (Cottle) Watters.
John loved all things Barnstable. He had many careers including owning a delivery company, "Deliverance", as a baker on an oil rig and as reporter for the Register Newspaper and Barnstable Patriot where he had his own column, "The Watters Edge." John was well-known for his Facebook page "You're Really from Barnstable if you Remember..." which has reached nearly 3,000 members. For the last 10 years he worked at Hyannis Toyota.
Throughout his life John was involved in the Cape Cod theater community. He was a talented writer, actor and director and was active with the Barnstable Comedy Club, Our Lady of Victory Players, the Orleans Academy of Performing Arts and many others.
Though he loved theatre, John's strongest passion and greatest accomplishment was his son Jack. He was an incredibly wonderful loving and devoted father.
John is survived by his best friend and former wife Kathleen (Barker) Watters, his adored son John "Jack" M. Watters, his nieces Keven Babcock and Kristyn Watters and nephews Garet Watters and Jerry Watters. He leaves behind countless friends and will be deeply missed by all.
Visiting hours will take place at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4pm to 7pm. Friends and relatives are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 9am to 10am before proceeding to funeral services 11am at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630. Cremation services will be private.
