

Joe was born in Providence, RI, raised in North Providence and lived in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Narragansett, RI before moving to Yarmouth Port, MA ten years ago. He was the eldest of six and only son of the late Joseph Francis and Helen (Neary) Barrett.
Joe was a graduate of Fordham University (1971); he completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania (1999) where he received two Master’s Degrees in Organizational Dynamics.
Joe was a Global Communications and Organizational consultant for major technology and financial services firms – including Xerox and Unisys. He also had his own working consultancy business serving banking, real estate, pharmaceutical and chemical companies.
Joe was kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and generous – known for his great sense of humor and ability to tell a good story. He was a wonderful brother, uncle and husband who loved traveling (especially the Bahamas). He loved his home, the beach and gardening – but above all, he loved spending time with his family and two dogs.
Joe is predeceased by his sister Madonna Barrett Nolan (2012). In addition to his wife Diane; he is survived by his sisters Mary Barrett Chatel and her husband David of Westerly, RI; Ellen Barrett of Washington, DC; Ann Barrett of Portsmouth, NH; Marita Barrett and her wife Julie Rothenberg of Cambridge, MA; his brother-in-law Jack Nolan of Lincoln, RI; his uncle Robert Barrett of Cranston, RI and his nieces and nephews Elizabeth Chatel, Michaela Chatel, John Nolan, Martin Nolan, Moira Nolan, Molly Richardson and Lucy Rothenberg. Joe also leaves behind many cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, November 5th from 3-7 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6th at Our Lady of Victory, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, MA 02632. Masks are required and for those fully vaccinated, recommended.
