Joseph Francis Cordeiro Jr, born on June 14, 1937, was the son of Hilda and Joseph Francis Cordeiro Sr and spent his childhood growing up in Somerset and Fall River Massachusetts. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passing away peacefully in his sleep on his 88th birthday.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, a chapter of his life that shaped his enduring sense of duty and integrity. He met the love of his life Marge in California, and they started their family while living in Sacramento. After moving back east they built a house in Hyannis in 1972 and have lived there since, enjoying many gatherings with family and friends.
Joe spent his career in the trucking industry and worked for Baxter Transport in Hyannis which was what opened the door for the family to move to Cape Cod. Eventually he went on to run divisions for Garvey Transportation and Anderson Trucking.
Joe and his family were longtime members of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he was a devoted parishioner. He was also actively involved in the Cursillo movement, where he taught and shared his faith with others. He became a longtime member of the Elks Lodge, where he spent decades volunteering his time for community events and enjoying fellowship with his fellow members. Joe was also a lifetime member of Wequaquet Yacht Club where he spent many summers with friends and family enjoying activities and outings.
A devoted family man, Joe was a great dad and a loving husband whose steady presence and warm heart were a source of strength to those around him. He took great pride in his family and especially cherished his role as both a father and grandfather.
He had a passion for sports and spent many years coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, guiding and mentoring countless young athletes. With his family spending so much time at the Kennedy Skating Rink playing hockey and figure skating, he and Marge took on the task of running the snack bar with their family and enjoyed many years of meeting new friends and serving up PPO’s that were well known in the skating community. He enjoyed playing tennis and golfing with friends and loved to watch his family play sports and participate in all types of activities, rarely missing any of them! He was also a big fan of the Boston Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox.
He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and the quiet but profound impact he had on so many lives.
Thank you to all at the Cape Cod Hospital and at The Pavilion for their care and compassion while taking care of Joe.
