Joseph. P. Ippolito Sr., Esq., of Centerville, MA. died on September 19, 2011. He was the devoted husband of the late Constance (Amato), to whom he had been happily married for 55 years at the time of her death in 2008. Mr. and Mrs. Ippolito made their home for many years in Medford, MA.
Born in the North End of Boston, MA, on September 21, 1925, Mr. Ippolito was the son of Vincenzo and Providenza (Miraglia) Ippolito. He was the loving father of three children: Hon. Joseph P. Ippolito, Jr. and his wife, Marcia (McGair), Esq of Warwick,
R.I.; Stephen F. Ippolito, and his wife Mary (Valla) of Burlington, MA. and Dennis, MA.; and Constance Ippolito Leonovich and her husband Stephen of Centerville, MA. Joe was the cherished grandfather of Andrea and Stephen F. Ippolito and step- grandfather of Parker Leonovich. He was the brother of Margaret Giordano of Medford, MA ; Connie Leccese of Burlington, VT; and the late Mary Piccariello and Michael, Alfonso and Anthony Ippolito.
After graduating with highest honors from Boston English High School, he matriculated at Boston University and went on to Boston University Law School, receiving his law degree in 1952. He later obtained an accounting degree from Bentley College. During his professional career, Mr. Ippolito was active in the fields of public accounting and business law in Boston. He was engaged for more than 25 years as in-house counsel and chief financial officer for the air cargo freight company "Dave's Motors," which was located at Logan International Airport.
In addition to his bar memberships, Mr. Ippolito was a member of the Elks Lodge in Medford for many years, where he participated in the glee club, which nourished his life-long love of the American songbook. In his retirement, Joe would lovingly serenade family and friends with his favorite popular songs.
But without doubt, his church and his family were the focus of Joe’s personal life. Upon his relocation to Centerville, he became a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. He was very proud of his children’s accomplishments and took unbridled joy in his grandchildren’s achievements, whether academic or in the sporting arena. Joe and Connie joyfully attended many soccer games, and hockey games and baseball games.
During World War II, Mr. Ippolito served in the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from the Doane, Beal
& Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. The family will receive visitors on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville, MA, 02632. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Good Shepard Sisters Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA 01752, who provided much support and comfort to Joe and Connie during her illness.
