OBITUARY
Joseph A. Murphy
September 17, 1970 – March 21, 2021
Joseph A. Murphy, 50, of Hyannis passed away on March 21, 2021 .
Joe grew up in Marshfield, MA and attended Marshfield High School.
Affectionately known as "Big Joe" ( standing 6'6" tall) he excelled in strength sports. Joe boxed and played football for many years.
In 2012, he was a defensive lineman for NEFL's Cape Cod Seadogs ( #63) helping lead them to win their conference championship, for which he proudly earned a championship ring. He also earned several titles in boxing and in his prime, was a heavyweight " Golden Gloves Champion".
His greatest accomplishment and proudest achievement however, was his son Joey.
Spending time with Joey and watching him compete in his own strength sports was unquestionably his greatest joy!
Joe is survived by his son, Joey ( Sandwich, MA), his ex-wife, Heather Lewis- Murphy ( Sandwich, MA), his sisters, Julie Murphy ( Tiverton, RI) and Maryellen Murphy ( Portland, ME).
Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Growing up in the same neighborhood together he was the guy that stood up for you if he saw you getting bullied. He was a gentle giant with a kind heart. He always remembered to wish me a Happy Birthday or say Hello and check in to see how my family and I were doing.
Joey's message after we became friend's on FB - Feb 2010-
I recognized your brother and mom and dad right away!It all came back to me like the steep hill in your back yard.Your swing set right near your back door and your big open kitchen with a sky light or sunroof.Your mom and dad seriously are the nicest people!Didn't we used to call your brother peewee?Hows this hubby of yours? Is he a great guy and a gentleman?I hope so cause you and your family are amazing great people so I hope that's what your being treated like!I'll talk soon I gotta hit the sack cause I had a few drinks and my pillow is yelling my name.So happy you added me!GB and big love always Joe
You will truly be missed by so many Joey ... please give your Dad a big hug from me

Wow. I can't believe that you're gone Big Joe. You were such a great person and friend as everyone that knew you knows and people that didn't know you as well can clearly see by the response your passing has gotten. You were always there for a friend in need, always showed up with a smile and helping hand. I like so many others looked up to you, not only because of your kind heart and inspirational words but because people had to literally look up at you when talking. You will be greatly missed by so many, may you rest in Peace.
May your son and family have the strength to get through this difficult time, many prayers being sent 🙏 John Simeone

Joe, you will be missed by many!! I will miss your posts and our chats. Life’s so short and I wish I grabbed that breakfast with you or met you at The Venus. Joe was an amazing soul. I was able to spend years with joe playing football 🏈 . Greatest time of my life. He was always so humble and went out of his way to help people. My greatest memory of joe. Was when we played on the SEADOGs and it was the championship game absolutely pouring out .It was the 4th qtr we were up. And the team we were playing was driving against us. Joe was on the D-line with me and I told him. We are going to win this game and he’s getting the sack with me. Well he met me in the backfield and we got the sack. To stop the drive we went on to win the championship.
I’ve always stayed in touch with joe even after I retired from football he always would tell me to come play wherever he was playing. We always talked about playing football and that game.it’s a memory I will cherish forever.
Joe Murphy was one of a kind. One of the nicest men, I know he touched so many lives and he’s definitely going to be missed. My prayers are with the family during this hard time.. we are here for you
