Born on October 2, 1942, in Waltham, MA, to Joseph A. Terrio and Margaret (Grant) Terrio, Joe was the oldest of five children. Known to many as "Butch," he was the beloved big brother to his sisters, Margo Stonionis (deceased), Linda Bosselman (deceased), Patricia Glendye, and Collette Vettori.
Newton has 13 villages; theirs is Newton Corner.
Like many young Americans, he yearned to serve his country and left high school early with his parents' permission to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. After completing basic training at Parris Island, SC, he served as an Expert Rifleman within the 3rd Marine Division. He served with honor in Okinawa, Japan, and Korea between 1959 and 1965.
His truest passion was martial arts. He was a lifelong practitioner and earned his 7th Degree Black Belt, 7th Dan.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Beverly Stonionis; his sons, Frank Terrio of Quincy, MA, and Jeffrey Terrio of Olympia, WA; his daughter, Heather Terrio of Englewood, FL; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest son, Paul, who we hope was there to greet him with an "Ice Cold Heineken."
Joe will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, located on Connery Avenue in Bourne, MA.
You will be missed, Dad. Semper Fi, Marine. Rest well.
