Lillian C Matthews

Lillian was born on November 26, 1932, in Fall River, MA. Loving mother to David Matthews and his wife Ana and Lisa Skelly and her husband Christopher. She was also survived by her brother Roger Mello and his wife Donna, and two granddaughters, Taylor Matthews and Morgan Matthews Bryon and her husband Michael as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Francis Mello.

Lillian spent her childhood in Fall River leaving school at an early age to help support her family by working in the textile mills. She later moved, with her family, to West Hyannisport, MA where she married and raised her two children. Lillian continued working while raising her family. She enjoyed working and meeting new people. Her happiest days were waitressing at Wimpy’s Restaurant in Osterville and the Priscilla Alden Room in Hyannis. Lillian eventually moved on to spend many years at Angelo’s Supermarket and eventually to Colonial Gas Company where she retired from in 1994.

Lillian was known for her work ethic, generosity and love for her family. In her retirement, she became a doting grandmother, avid Red Sox fan and slot player extraordinaire.

The family is extremely grateful to the VNA Hospice Team of Sandwich that helped care for Lillian.

Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Victory Parish, 230 S Main St, Centerville, MA with burial at Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Ave, Cotuit, MA.
