MARSTONS MILLS- Manuel (Manny) Roderick Jr. passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the age of 85, from complications of kidney disease; surrounded by family.

Born in Marstons Mills village on December 9, 1935, to the late Manuel and Louisa Roderick. Manny was educated in the Barnstable School System and graduated in the class of 1955. Upon graduation, he joined The United States Coast Guard, where he served honorably. He had a profound love for his country. He was a true American Patriot, rejoining the Coast Guard Reserve later in life. After leaving the Military and returning to his beloved Cape Cod, where he was married and raised a family. Working in the waterworks industry, Manny honed his craft, obtaining the knowledge to eventually start his own business. Roderick Construction Company was founded in 1981, Roderick Trucking, and Roderick Inspection at later dates. He loved these companies until the last days of his life. Manny enjoyed working in the water business and mostly enjoyed being on the job sites. He retired at age 84 in 2020, due to health reasons, leaving his business in the capable hands of his sons.

He enjoyed the waterworks industry and served as a member of the Board of Water Commissioner for one term. He was also a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption church in Osterville. Manny was also involved in the youth athletic programs coaching the village kids in baseball and basketball. An avid golfer, he was a member of The Capesters II Golf Club. He played in the Friday Golf League at Holly Ridge Golf Club, where he often held his summer golf tournaments.

Manny had an amazing personality and loved gatherings with family and friends. Anyone he encountered was invited to his open house parties. At any holidays, everyone knew they could just walk into his home and join the fun. His motto was “There Are No Strangers Here; Only Friends You Haven’t Yet Met.”

He is survived by his children Steven W. Roderick and wife Lisa of Mashpee, Manuel Roderick III and wife Celia of Centerville, Tracy Carter of Marstons Mills, and grandson Manuel Roderick IV of Mashpee, who was helping care for his grandpa to the end. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mabel Galvin of Hyannis, Barbara Pina of Cotuit, and Louise DePina of California. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Manny was predeceased by his parents, Manuel and Louisa, four brothers: Peter, Frank, August, and Thomas Roderick; five sisters: Beatrice Monteiro, Johanna Andrews, Mary Moore, Marion Roderick, and Evatina Roderick; and grandson Steven W. Roderick Jr.

The Roderick family would like to thank the Fresenius Kidney Care of Mashpee, The Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, and the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich for the comfort and support offered during this difficult time.

As a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and a concern for the people they love, services will be held privately at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Marstons Mills Cemetery on Route 149. A celebration of his life will be announced and held at the family home at a later date when it is safe to do so.

  • At the family's request, services will be held privately.

Uncle Manny was an amazing, kind man who wore his heart on his sleeves and extended it to everyone that knew him. I remember the first time that I met Uncle Manny. We were at his home and he was ( as always ) hosting a party for family and friends poolside. I remember being very shy until we started with the karaoke. The song I sang to him that day was “ Hopelessly Devoted to you “ and so he was..
Uncle Manny you will be sorely missed. Thanks for the memories.
Love Ro
