

Margaret Ann (O’Leary) Ferriter, 94, of W. Yarmouth, MA formerly of E. Dennis, MA died peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 18, 2019. She was the wife of the late John J. Ferriter.
Margaret was born in Ashland and raised in Framingham, the daughter of the late James and Bridget (Keaney) O’Leary. She was Miss Greater Framingham (’41) and a graduate of Framingham High School (’42). After graduation, she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a secretary.
Margaret met the love of her life, John J. Ferriter whom she married in 1944. John was a career military man and Margaret a devoted military wife. They lived in the Philippines, Japan, Europe (Germany), Washington DC, Maine and upstate New York. As a Colonel’s wife, Margaret was very active with the officer’s club she also volunteered with the Red Cross.
In 1980, John and Margaret moved to the Cape and settled in East Dennis. Margaret had an active life on Cape. She was a bridge Life Master, an artist, with a passion for painting and a philanthropist. She thoroughly enjoyed socializing with her friends.
Faith was very important to Margaret; she was a devout parishioner and ecumenical minister with St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
At age 60, Margaret decided to return to the workforce part-time; she worked for Macy’s in various departments until age 80.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband John, she is predeceased by her sister Mary Collins and younger sister Beatrice Erickson. Margaret is survived by her adored children; Joan (Timothy) Ross of CT, John (Sandra) Ferriter of MD and James (Linda) of VA and her dear sister Alice Gardella. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will take place Friday, November 22nd from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. A Funeral Mass will follow, 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South St., Hyannis with Burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
