

Mary E. Carlson, 86, died June 11, 2010. Born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y., she married her beloved husband Gunnar in 1944 shortly after he enlisted in the Navy. Following his military career, they lived in Long Island, NY, Redding, CT, and New Milford, CT before retiring to Cape Cod in 1984. Mary worked at Jordan Marsh and volunteered at the Cape Aids Ministry for a number of years. She became involved with the Vasa Lodge, the Irish American Club and the Women's Guild at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, as well as the Grandmother's Novena group. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and baker, lover of kids and and animals, and an adoring grandmother. Mary was compassionate, generous and was known for her heart of gold. She was predeceased by her husband. She leaves her daughters, Georgia Turner and husband Stephen Cook of Sacramento CA., Patricia M. Carlson of Hyannis and Mary M. and husband Stephen Mangano of N. Reading. She is also survived by her brothers, Henry (Harry) Devine of W. Islip, N.Y., William (Bill) Devine of Port Jefferson Station N.Y. as well as her cherished grandsons Christopher and Jonathan Mangano, both of N. Reading. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 15, 2010 from 4-8pm at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St. Hyannis, MA 02601. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church 230 S. Main St. Centerville MA 02632 at 10am Wednesday June 16. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross.
