Mary Ann (Duarte) O’Neil, 86, of West Barnstable, MA passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2020. A native Cape Codder, Mary was born and raised in West Barnstable to the late Joseph and Louisa (Dutra) Duarte on September 24, 1933.
She attended Barnstable High School graduating in 1951 and went on to attend Burdett College graduating with an associate’s degree in accounting.
Mary was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and daughter. She spent much of her adult life raising her family and supporting her husband, the late Robert A. O'Neil Sr, during his military career while living in Canada, South Carolina and finally settling back in her native Cape Cod in 1966. After retirement, she and her husband of 38 years, enjoyed cooking together and taking trips to Turkey, Hawaii and the Azores. Mary was an avid West Barnstable walker, gardener and a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Chapel. Mary also worked at Buttner’s on Main Street in Hyannis and volunteered at Meals on Wheels and at the St Vincent DePaul food pantry where she made many friends and touched many hearts. She is survived by her two sons: Robert A. O'Neil Jr and Michael J. O'Neil, her daughter Louise Gray as well as two granddaughters and four grandsons.
Due to COVID-19, visitation will be private. Burial will be held on Friday May 8, 2020 at 11:30 am at St Francis Xavier Cemetery. Please join the livestreaming of the graveside service via Facebook.
