OBITUARY

Michael J. Bresnahan

April 30, 1966 – October 4, 2025
Obituary of Michael J. Bresnahan
IN THE CARE OF

Doane Beal & Ames

Michael Joseph Bresnahan, age 59, of Hyannis, Massachusetts, and formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2025, of natural causes.

Born on April 30, 1966, Michael was the beloved son of Jeremiah J. Bresnahan, Jr. and Ellen Dunne Bresnahan, and the brother of Ellen, Stephen, and Timothy Bresnahan. He is survived by his parents and siblings, as well as nieces Emily Young (Bill), Missy Hamblet, Casey Bresnahan, and nephew Ryan Hamblet. He also leaves behind great-nephews Theodore and Christopher Young, his paternal aunt Judy Mawn (predeceased by uncle Jim Mawn), maternal uncle Tom Dunne (Winanne Kreger), and many loving cousins, along with close friends and fellow Marines.

After graduating from Newton North High School (Class of 1985), Michael proudly served his country as a United States Marine, where he formed lifelong bonds and took great pride in his service as a Rifleman. After completing his service, he attended Massachusetts Bay Community College and went on to hold a variety of positions, including in financial advising and with the U.S. Postal Service.

A lifelong Boston sports fan (especially of the Bruins), Michael loved Cape Cod and could often be found biking along the Cape Cod Rail Trail, enjoying a hearty breakfast at favorite local spots in Falmouth and Hyannis, or spending time at Skaket and Nauset Beaches in Orleans. He especially treasured outings with family and friends and reunions with his Marine brothers.

Michael will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date. Service time and details will be announced when available.

In lieu of flowers, please know that Michael especially supported child-focused charities, and would be honored by a donation to a charity of your choice made in his name.

Michael was larger than life, and no one who knew him will ever forget him. He will be remembered with love and gratitude for his service, his humor, and the many ways he touched our lives.
