

Michael Joseph McGuire, M.D., 62 of Centerville, MA courageously walked through a long term illness and passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. He was born in Port Chester, NY to the late Felix and Josephine H. McGuire.
Dr. McGuire lived in Connecticut before moving to the Cape 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Syracuse University (’77), completed post graduate studies at Manhattanville College (’81) and a Doctor of Medicine at Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University (’86) in Israel. He completed his residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Some of his favorite medical experiences in NY included the Neuropsychiatric Movement Disorder Clinic at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in Port Chester, NY; Fellow in Emergency Room Psychiatry at the North Central Bronx Hospital in Bronx, NY and he provided Forensic Consultation at the Monticello Mental Health Center in Monticello, NY.
Some of his professional experience on Cape included Vice Chairman, Dept. of Psychiatry & Medical Chief, Outpatient Psychiatry at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA; Deputy Medical Director at Bridgewater State Hospital in Bridgewater, MA; Deputy Chief Psychiatrist at Massachusetts Dept. of Correction, MHM Services – Massachusetts; Supervising Psychiatrist at Massachusetts Alcohol & Substance Abuse Center in Bridgewater, MA; Attending Psychiatrist at Bridgewater State Hospital in Bridgewater, MA.
Some of his awards and honors include Chief Resident in Psychiatry, Coordinator, Faculty Appointment and Guest Lecturer at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as Faculty Appointment at UMass Medical School.
Michael is survived by his wife Lorri J. (Lewis) McGuire; his sister Julie McGuire Hall, her husband Ronald T. Hall and their children David and Susan Hall and grandniece & nephew Julia & Joshua; his sister Lisa Currey, her husband Douglas and their children James, Kristen and Branden Currey; and his brother Robin K. McGuire, his wife Marie and their children Chris and John McGuire.
An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, lacrosse, soccer and hockey.
Michael and Lorri were blessed together in life by God. He was privileged to be surrounded by dear family, friends and colleagues in the course of his career and life. He was a very fortunate man. Quite simply, he lived a wonderful life.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at a time to be announced at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hope Hospice at hopehealthma.org.
