Yarmouthport – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, devoted husband, and cherished friend, L. Paul Goyette. Paul passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Paul was born on February 15, 1934, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to parents Leo P. and Anna (Lynch) Goyette. He graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and received his B.S. degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1956 with a degree in pharmacology. He began his career as a pharmacist at Vernon Drug Store in Worcester and later became a pharmaceutical salesman for Abbott Laboratories for 33 years before retiring in 1996.
Classical High School is where he met his childhood sweetheart, Mary J. (Donahue). They married on June 18, 1955 and lived in Worcester and West Boylston before retiring to the Cape and Seminole, FL. Their unwavering love and respect for each other was a guiding light for those who knew them and a beautiful love story to witness. They were happily devoted to each other for 62 years until God called Mary first on December 28, 2017.
Paul leaves behind his loving brother, Robert T. Goyette of Westfield, MA, and his 6 children: Ann Nelson and her husband Bob of Sandwich, MA., Paul M. Goyette and his wife Mary of Somersworth, NH., Donna Beall and her husband Howard of Missoula, MT., Steven Goyette and his wife Sandy of Tinmouth, VT., Christine Weedon and her husband Andy of Dumfries, VA and David Goyette and his wife Sue of Hudson, MA, along with 10 grandchildren: Steven Nelson and his wife Katy, Brian Nelson and his wife Sophie, Kathryn Iacuzzi and her husband David, Michael Beal, Allie Beal, Alex Goyette and his fiancé Jen, Mark Goyette and his wife Caroline, Tommy, Bobby, Megan Goyette, and 7 great grandchildren: Emma, Patrick, Matthew, James, Paul, Luke, and Elle all of whom he adored and loved, as well as nieces and nephews.
Paul's life was a testament to cherished values, with unwavering faith and family dedication guiding him. As a devoted father and husband, he and Mary raised their children in West Boylston, creating a home filled with warmth and laughter. Paul actively contributed to the community as an integral part of the Athletic Association, coaching Little League and leaving a lasting impact on young athletes. His commitment to family, community, and shaping the next generation reflects the depth of character that defined Paul's remarkable life.
Paul was known to all as a very thoughtful man. He had a rare gift for making others feel appreciated and valued. His kindness extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and anyone lucky enough to cross his path. Whether through phone calls checking on friends, sending flowers for special occasions, sending cards for every holiday that included a $5 bill for his great grandchildren, dropping off meals for friends under the weather, saying yes when asked to help on a committee, offering a helping hand, or a simple act of generosity, Paul's impact on those around him was immeasurable. Additionally, he took pride in being a dedicated rare blood donor, never missing an opportunity to contribute.
Beyond his family and faith, Paul found immense joy in the sport of golf. For him, golf was more than a game; it was a source of camaraderie, competition, and lifelong friendships. The golf course wasn't just where he played; it was where he made lasting memories with friends who became like family. He was a proud member of Cummaquid Golf Course in Yarmouthport and Seminole Golf Course in Florida, and last January he checked off a bucket list item by playing golf at Pebble Beach.
Visitation will be at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., Hyannis, MA on December 15th from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Church on December 16th at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.
Instead of flowers, the family recommends either donating blood or making a charitable contribution to the American Red Cross in Paul’s name. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
