AMHERST- Peter T. "Tobey" Lebel, 58, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2018 surrounded by his loving family, following a brief battle with aggressive cancer which he fought with courage and determination.
Peter was born in Kingston, NY, and raised on Cape Cod. He was a graduate of Barnstable High School, and attended UMASS Amherst where he worked for over 30 years in the Food Services and Culinary Department.
While growing up, Peter loved to summer in Craigville at the "Tobey" Cottage where he enjoyed sitting on one of the rockers on the front porch while talking to friends and family. He loved taking walks up to the "40" steps to watch the sun set. Peter loved Cape Cod and seafood dinners. He was a gentle soul who took life slow and easy.
Peter is survived by his mother, Sandra L. Murphy of Centerville; his sisters, Deborah Jacobs of Centerville, and Susan Robideau of Agawam; a brother, John Lebel of Rumford, ME; nieces, Sarah and Kiley Stewart; and a nephew, Taylor Jacobs. He also leaves his dear friend Johnathan Miller of Amherst.
Peter was predeceased by his father, Peter D. Lebel; a sister, Kathleen Lebel; and a niece, Ryan Jacobs.
Peter's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Elaine Center of Hadley and the Fisher House Hospice for such wonderful compassionate care they gave to Peter.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 31st at 11 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W Main St., Hyannis. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home directly following visitation at 12 noon. Burial will be held privately.
