Philip Brendli

Philip was born on October 18, 1952, in New York City to Helen and Philip Brendli Sr. He was raised in Astoria, Queens, and Ronkonkoma, New York, where he attended Connetquot High School. He then went on to study at Stony Brook University and the American Academy McAllister Institute in New York City, graduating with an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies.

He began his professional life as a licensed funeral director, dedicating himself to serving families during their most difficult times. Making a dramatic career change, Philip later joined IBM, where he worked as a systems analyst for 30 years. During his early years at the company, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Mercy College.

In 1983, he married Karen Miller, and together they built a life in Brewster, New York, where they raised their family before retiring to Cape Cod in 2019.

Philip was a devout Catholic whose faith was central to his life. He generously gave his time for many years as a religious education teacher, guiding students in their appreciation of the faith. He was also an avid sports fan, loyally cheering on the New York Mets and New York Jets. He shared his love of sports by serving as a volunteer coach for his daughters’ basketball team. In his free time, he also enjoyed tennis, racquetball, and softball.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Philip had a love for music and masterfully played the accordion. He shared this passion by performing in a small family band that brought joy to gatherings and celebrations.

His family considered him a “chocolate connoisseur,” indulging in any sweet treat that came his way.

Philip is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Brendli; his three children, Craig Brendli (Robert Grasing) of Poughkeepsie, New York, and his twin daughters, Blair Amara (Samuel) of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts, and Rebecca Salgado (Joseph) of Bourne, Massachusetts; his five grandchildren, Grant, Griffin, Rio, Bianca, and Indigo; his siblings, Steve Brendli of Patchogue, New York, Lorraine Robinson (Martin) of Center Moriches, New York, and Patricia Bohlert (Patrick) of Medford, New York; his aunt, Christine Quinlan of Patchogue, New York; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Philip Brendli Sr.; his brother, James Brendli; his sister-in-law, Barbara Brendli; and his uncle, Francis Quinlan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Philip’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis, Massachusetts, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville, Massachusetts, with interment at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, Massachusetts, immediately thereafter.
