

R. Michael Pigo-Cronin died peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Glens Falls, NY, Michael was a long-time resident of Sterling, MA and then Hyannis, MA.
Michael was valedictorian at St. Mary’s High School in Glens Falls, NY. He attended the University of Ottawa and trained for four years at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. After serving as a parish priest in the Albany diocese for many years, he left the church to return to doctoral training in psychology at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, MA. While in training he met his beloved wife, Nita. After completing their programs they practiced pastoral counseling together in Worcester, MA until they retired to Cape Cod in 2003.
Everywhere Mike went he created community. He volunteered for many organizations and spent countless hours repairing bicycles to donate. Mike was an accomplished folk musician, delighting his family and friends with his voice and guitar. He played with ‘Just Plain Folk’ on Cape Cod for many years. He was a lifelong student and enjoyed taking classes and serving on the board at the Cape’s Academy for Lifelong Learning. He served as a naturalist on whale watches and kayak tours, educating visitors on the many wonders of Cape Cod’s waterways. Mike was happiest outdoors, enjoying nature and going on adventures with his kids and grandkids, who were the light of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nita Pigo-Cronin of Hyannis, MA, his daughter and son-in-law Tara and Carl Rizzo of Milford, CT, his son Miguel Pigo-Cronin of Massachusetts, and daughter-in-law Shanique Harris of Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Quinteras, Kenyatta, Xavier, Miguel, Brayden, Matthew, and Abby and great-grandson Zion, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Marietta (Powers) Cronin and his sisters Nancy Rayno and Gail Cronin.
A celebration of Mike’s life will take place September 20, 2025, at Doane, Beal, and Ames in Hyannis, MA.
