BARNSTABLE- Raymond E. “Ray” LaFleur, AKA "Joe", 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Verna (Ricker) LaFleur, with whom he shared 38 loving years of marriage.
Born and raised in Taunton, MA, he was a son of the late Edmund L. and Lydia LaFleur. Upon graduating electrical school, he relocated to Cape Cod. Ray was a Master Electrician who was extremely dedicated to his trade. He owned and operated LaFleur Electric (R&S LaFleur) in Hyannis for over 50 years, working right up until his passing.
Ray was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching birds, but the squirrels not so much! Ray also liked to enjoy a glass of Amaretto, and spent much of his time outdoors whether it was boating, visiting Nauset Beach, or sitting around the fire pit. His time around the fire pit was often spent telling stories ending with the infamous question “What did you learn today?” Ray annually participated in Barnstable's “New Year’s Day Polar Plunge” at Millway Beach. In fact, he would often take a second plunge because he could not believe it was that cold.
On Wednesday nights, Ray could be found at the Men’s Club in Marstons Mills where he played the card game 45. His love for the game was passed down to him by his parents who also belonged to a 45 club. Above all, his most cherished time was spent surrounded by family. He truly adored his wife, Verna, who was the light of his life. Ray loved to attend family get-togethers and often traveled to Fort Myers, FL to visit his siblings and friends on Ft. Myers Beach. Ray will always be remembered for the annual "LaFleur Chicken Barbeque" that he held, using a secret recipe passed down by his father, only shared with people with the LaFleur name.
In addition to his wife, Verna (Ricker) LaFleur, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Anet Skillin of Asheville, NC, Christine Petrillo of South Berwick, ME, Scott LaFleur of Hyannis, MA, and Michelle Rementer and her husband Tim of East Greenville, PA; seven grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Leah and Jake LaFleur of Centerville, MA, Lio and Enzo Petrillo of South Berwick, ME; and Nick Rementer of PA; as well as his siblings, Vivian Richmond (and her husband, Jerry), Janet Farrell, and Edmund J. LaFleur, all of Fort Myers, FL.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 on the Hyannis Whale Watcher Boat at the Millway Marina (269 Millway, Barnstable, MA). For those who wish to pay their respects before the harbor cruise sets sail, the family will be receiving visitors while the boat is docked from 3 to 4 p.m. The boat will set sail promptly at 4 p.m. and will be at sea until 6 p.m. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.doanebealameshyannis.com
