Born in New York City on June 6, 1942, Bob’s bright mind was evident early on. He attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science before heading to Boston University, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and Communications. Shortly after graduation, Bob married the absolute love of his life, Myrna, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span decades and anchor his life.
The newlyweds moved to Schenectady, New York, where Bob launched a successful career at General Electric. His innovative spirit shone brightly at GE, earning him numerous accolades and awards for his visionary advertising programs. During his time in Schenectady, Bob also nurtured his love for the outdoors; an avid freshwater fisherman, he shared his passion with the community through a weekly column in the Schenectady Gazette aptly titled, "Lure of the Line."
Bob’s career later took him and Myrna to New Jersey, where he transitioned into business-to-business magazine publishing. Ever the forward-thinker, Bob embraced technology long before it was mainstream, becoming a pioneer in utilizing early personal computers to revolutionize sales territory management. His professional achievements eventually brought him to Massachusetts, where he continued to excel.
Bob was far more than just his work; he lived for adventure and cherished the many travels he shared with Myrna, exploring the world together from China and Costa Rica to the wilds of Africa and Alaska.
Retirement marked the beginning of a vibrant new chapter. Bob and Myrna settled on Cape Cod and enjoyed spending their winters basking in the Florida sun. Free to pour himself back into his creative roots, Bob returned to his lifelong passion for photography. His impact on the local arts community was profound; he was a founding member of the Cape Cod Art Association Camera Club, an organization that remains a thriving community hub today, more than 20 years later. As a master photographer, Bob captured the world with a brilliant eye, selling limited-edition prints at art shows across Massachusetts and Florida, and generously sharing his expertise by teaching classes at both the CCAA and the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
Yet, for all his professional success and artistic talent, Bob’s greatest joy and proudest legacy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna; his devoted children, Heidi Shorr and her husband Adam, and David Singer and his wife Elizabeth. He was the treasured grandfather to Jeremy Shorr and his fiancée Mary Kate Ingram, Aviya Singer and her husband Cole Goding, Rebecca Shorr and her significant other Chris Walsh, and Eliana Singer and her significant other Adam Flores.
Bob’s welcoming spirit and genuine generosity made everyone feel like family, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. Bob will be remembered as a pioneer, an artist, a storyteller, and above all, a deeply loving husband, father, and grandfather.
His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
