Roger is survived by his bride of 58 years, Patricia Ann (Senior) Cahill of Centerville; three daughters, Colleen Cahill-Troy and her husband Tony of Centerville, Bridget Cahill of Brewster and Julia Cahill-O’Shea and her husband Stephen O’Shea of Reading, MA; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Cahill of Windsor, CT, and Clare Cahill of Oxford; 6 grandchildren, Carey Daly, Colleen, Evan and Shea Cunha, and Molly and Solana O’Shea; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Major Kenneth J. Cahill, and Daniel W. Cahill. He was born in Whitinsville, the son of the late James F. and Dorilda M. (Cournoyer) Cahill.
Mr. Cahill graduated from Northbridge High School in June of 1949 and met his bride at the Lakeside Ballroom in Worcester on September 10th, 1949. They married four years later on July 4, 1953, in San Antonio, TX, where Roger was stationed. They soon embarked on a tour of the world as Roger proudly served his country, with honors, for 26 years in the USAF. During his tour of duty, Roger and his young family enjoyed their travels and made many friends, all over the world. While stationed in Alaska, Roger received his BA in History from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Upon retiring as Master Sergeant from the USAF in 1976, he moved his family to Harwich, Cape Cod and during the next 16 years, continued his service to mankind with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Employment Security. Roger was also a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1949.
Roger’s life was full of love and laughter. He was “The World’s Bestest” husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a good man, a faithful man, a proud man and in the end, his departure from this world was surely as beautiful as the day he arrived. He will be sorely missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 10:00 am, followed by a burial with military honors at Mass National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street in Hyannis.
