Hyannis- Roland L. Catani (Catignani) was born December 19, 1923 in Dorchester, MA and died at the Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his family on March 24, 2014. He attended Boston Latin School and Boston University’s College of Business Administration where he met is wife of 63 years, Laura Grassi who was attending BU’s College of Liberal Arts.
He then graduated from New England School of Law and began a career in Business and a Commercial Real Estate Brokerage in Cambridge and in Hyannis. Roland and Laura resided in Dover, MA, summering on the Cape until they relocated here to the family summer home in Hyannis full time in 1973.
His interests were to travel, particularly to his family homestead in Italy and to Dania Beach, Florida. He also had a love for skiing and automobile mechanics, particularly General Motors’ vehicles. He attended Mass at St. Francis Xavier in Hyannis and Our Lady of Victory in Centerville. He and his wife supported the end of the Vietnam War and nuclear disarmament. They attended two related sessions of the United Nations.
He lived life with a great sense of humor and developed many acquaintances from his local daily travels in the Hyannis Business Community and at the Hyannis Senior Center. He was a great teacher and mentor to family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Roland is survived by his wife Laura Grassi Catani and their son Roy Catignani, his wife Judy and their three children, Sarah, Brian and Emily Catignani. He also leaves his sister Eleanor Orbe, her husband Octavius, their 7 children and his brother Robert Crane, his wife Myra and their daughter.
Visiting hours are 6-9 PM March 28, 2014 at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis, MA. at 10 AM on March 29, 2014.
