

Sandra (Greene) O'Neill, 81, of Hyannis, MA passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity and dedication. Born in Brockton, MA in 1942, Sandy lived in Hyannis until graduating from Barnstable High School in 1960. She furthered her education in Florida earning her degree in 1964.
Sandy began her teaching career immediately after college serving as a beloved educator in the Lynnfield school system for 40 years. While living in North Reading with her late husband, John O’Neill, she inspired countless students with her enthusiasm for learning and nurturing spirit.
In addition to her dedication to teaching, Sandy was a talented artist whose joy for painting enriched the lives of her family and friends. She was recognized for her artistic contributions and creativity as a proud member of the Yarmouth Art Guild.
An active member of the Garden Club of Hyannis, MA, Sandy served as President from 2013 to 2015. She loved working on garden projects and participating in their Triennial Holiday Showcase event at The Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Yarmouth. Her dedication to the club's scholarship mission and her award-winning horticulture showcased her love of nature.
Sandy was also very passionate about music. She enjoyed attending concerts at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cape Symphony and Tanglewood with John, creating cherished memories.
Animals held a special place in her heart, particularly her beloved cats—Grog, Owl, Loki, Scooter, Princess and Miss Kitty. Sandy actively supported the MSPCA opening her home to adopt cats in need.
Sandy is survived by her three step-daughters: Katherine O'Neill Nelson and her husband Robert and their children Gabriel and Alaine of Marshfield; Patricia O'Neill Flynn and her husband William and their sons Daniel and Jack of Sandwich; and Jennifer O'Neill Rembelski of Timnath, Colorado and her children Olivia and Michael. Sandy is also survived by her nephew Phillip Greene III and his wife, Ashley and their children Lexi, Peyton, and Colton of Yarmouth Port as well as her cousin Thomas Peterson of New Jersey.
A funeral service will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, with visiting hours on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by a celebration of life service.
Sandra was a beautiful, creative, intelligent and kind soul whose peaceful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness and artistic expression will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
