She was born and raised in Hyannis. After graduating from Barnstable High School, Susan pursued a two-year program specializing in sign language.
Susan worked in the records department at Cape Cod Hospital. She later worked for Puritan Clothing, a job she loved, and then at Lambert's Market in Centerville. She was, most recently, a clerk with Stop & Shop in Hyannis for over 20 years.
Susan was the loving wife of 25 years to James F. Gilchrist. She was the sister of Doreen Poole of Sandwich and was predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Jean (Foster) Crowe.
A devoted member of The Federated Church of Hyannis, Susan was deeply involved and active, including sharing her gift for sign language at church.
Susan was an advocate for Alzheimer’s Disease Research and a supporter of the Cape Cod Organization for Rights of the Disabled (CORD), offering her support in ways that spoke to her generous heart and enduring concern for others. She also loved animals.
A Funeral Service will take place 11 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St, Hyannis, MA 02601 followed by burial at Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Cape Cod Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main St, Brewster, MA 02631.
