Raised in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, Tom – or Tommy, to many – was the second of three beloved sons of William F. Bagley and Anna M. Bagley. Alongside brothers William and James, and cousins, the Maher girls and Timmy, he spent his childhood steeped in love, family, and plenty of troublemaking behind the family barn.
A 1971 graduate of Shrewsbury’s St. John’s High School, Tom received his A.B. in Philosophy and History from the College of the Holy Cross in 1975, where he was a celebrated member of the varsity soccer team for four years. The men he played with at Holy Cross became lifelong friends. Their love and unmatched humor carried Tom through life’s challenges into his final days. Any one of them would deliver a beautiful eulogy for Tom, if only their years in Catholic school had taught them how to behave in church.
Before continuing his education at the George Mason University School of Law, Tom took a detour to Mexico City, where he spent time with family friends, the Hazletts. Tom Hazlett Sr.’s posting with a government agency introduced Tom to a world of service and adventure that would stay with him throughout his life. Later, the two Toms became neighbors, sharing companionship through conversations about politics, history, and the world around them.
Tom balanced his early career as an attorney in the Boston area with his true passion: soccer. Off the pitch, alongside bright-minded teammates from the Norwood Kickers, Tom would help to grow and lead MPM (Modern Printing Method) which developed state-of-the-art circuit board printing technology.
After selling MPM, Tom made his way to Cape Cod as a full-time resident in the early 1990s for his proudest accomplishment: his children. He leaves Thomas S. Bagley Jr. (Kate) of Cotuit, Anna B. Chabon (Jonathan) of Orleans and granddaughter Minna A. Chabon.
These years held a lifetime of joy within them: kayak and Whaler rides across the Centerville River to Long Beach, Saturdays at the 4Cs fields coaching soccer, Sunday mornings at Our Lady of Victory and the Country Store, bike rides up Bay Lane to visit Grammy and Grandpa, and summer nights at Four Seas drinking chocolate frappes. His doors on South Main Street were open to all, just like his heart. Fiercely loving and protective, Tom raised his children here on the Cape with a love of the outdoors and community; his spirit is ever-present here “on the sandbar” and will continue to nurture them in the place they still call home.
Tom also introduced a generation of Cape Codders to soccer as an active leader in the Barnstable Youth Soccer Association. Expanding over the bridge, he and his mates founded Mass Premier Soccer, which included development league teams the Cape Cod Crusaders, Boston Renegades, and Boston Bulldogs. This era would help Tom transition into his final and dream career in player representation. As a founding partner of Longview Management, Tom fostered the professional careers of players all over the world.
Tom was reunited on Cape Cod with his college sweetheart, Teresa Leonard-Gilham of Missoula, MT, and Centerville. Tom and Terry made a beautiful life together out of simple joys: combining record collections, walks through Heritage Gardens, movie screenings at Cape Cinema, and trips to the Long Beach. They loved to travel, from exploring Norway and crossing Ireland, to visiting family near and far. They brought out the best in each other, always encouraging, supporting, and celebrating one another’s passions. Tom admired Terry’s artistry and creativity, while Terry encouraged his love of photography. As a devoted partner, Terry held Tom’s hand through diagnosis and treatment, a true blessing he and his family were lucky to receive.
In addition to his children and partner, Tom is survived by brothers William Bagley, Jr. (Mary) of Worcester, MA, James Bagley (Beatrice) of Fairfield, CT, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Anna and Bill, to whom he was deeply devoted.
Tom’s life, while cut too short, was vast. His generosity, compassion, and relentless belief in the potential of others shaped the lives of his family, friends, teammates and coworkers all over the world.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to share in celebration of Tom’s life during visiting hours on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St, Hyannis, MA.
A funeral mass will be held for Tom on Friday, September 25th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville, MA. An interment will take place at a later date.
When you put a record on, watch a soccer game, or go to the beach, think of Tom and smile; all he wanted was for his loved ones to be happy and safe. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Dana-Farber Cancer Center, where the team of Himisha Beltran, MD, and Patrick Curran, NP-BC, provided compassionate care to Tom for the past seven years.
