

Thomas F. Vetorino, 83, of Barnstable passed away on January 31, 2025 at home surrounded by family . Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Fernandes) Vetorino. Thomas came down to the cape at age 3. He and his father were commercial fisherman out of Barnstable Harbor from a very young age. He attended and graduated from St Johns Prep in 1959 and then went on to Wentworth institute.
At the age of 16, he became a firefighter and worked for 42 years at the Barnstable Fire Department before retiring as Deputy Fire Chief. At 19, he started in the business at Vetorino’s Excavation then later Woodchuck Hill.
Thomas enjoyed planting apple trees, running his machines and playing in the yard. He also loved clamming, traveling and walking on the beach in FL where he wintered, and sharing life stories with all. He especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife. He mentored many people. If you are a true Cape Codder you will know the guy in the red and white polka dotted hat.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Karen ( Connell) Vetorino, his daughter Gail Tivey and son in law Ronald Tivey, son Stephen Vetorino and predeceased daughter Trisha Myrbeck and son law Peter Myrbeck along with his 9 grandchildren Savannah, Zachary, Katelynn, Hayley, Kayla, Colby, Torrie, Mackenzie and Samantha. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Vetorino and brother in law Bruce Connell from Florida.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 4-8pm at Doane, Beal and Ames, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barnstable Fire Department Gifts of Funds.
