

Vernon S. Blanchard, 87, of Hyannis Port, passed away peacefully at home on May 8th after a prolonged illness. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Helen F. Blanchard for 64 years. He leaves behind three sons: Paul and his wife Kathleen of Burlington, Barry of Wellsville, PA, and Douglas and his wife Karen of Sykesville, MD. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Dr. Gary Blanchard and his wife Dr. Brandi Hoag-Blanchard and great-grandchild Olivia, of South Grafton, Christopher Blanchard and his wife Andrea of Owings Mills, MD, and Krista Blanchard and fiancée Noah Brother of Chelsea. Vernon was predeceased by parents Ashley and Esther Blanchard, and sisters and brothers-in-law Ardelle and Charles Smart and Beverly and Warren Cook. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Vernon grew up in Whitman, MA, was an A&P store manager in Harwich for many years, and retired after 45 years with the A&P. He was devoted to his family, and loved gardening, fishing, clamming, going to yard sales, and bird watching. Vernon was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis and had volunteered at the Salvation Army in past years. He was a proud decorated Veteran of World War II serving with the US Army Signal Corps.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 13 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Doane, Beal and Ames in Hyannis, followed by a 7 pm memorial service officiated by Rev John A. Terry. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, May 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Federated Church or the Salvation Army.
