Virginia Marie Just passed away in Hadley, MA on July 29. Always known as Ginny, she was born in Weymouth to Frederic and Ruth Just (née McNeil) and for most of her 78 years lived up and down the South Shore and on Cape Cod.
Ginny was ceaselessly creative. After attending the Vesper George School of Art in the 70s, she worked as a graphic designer in the Boston ad industry—back when layouts were assembled by hand using paste-up board, rub-on Letraset letters, and X-Acto knives. By the late 80s, she was already moving to digital design and venturing out on her own under the name of Just Design.
For family, friends, and clients, Ginny also created personalized mandalas, stained glass lamps and signs, and unique handmade gifts. For every house or apartment she lived in, it seemed like a new assortment of artwork lined the walls.
She was as giving as she was creative. She shared her experience in graphic design, teaching at New England School of Art and Design and Cape Cod Community College. On holidays, she shared newly developed concoctions from her ever-expanding recipe box. At church, she shared her time—singing in the choir, leading the youth group, helping to run the yearly auction. And with her sister—her best friend, Naomi—she shared laughter. Lots of it.
She was married to Scott and then to Jeff. She raised a family. She lived with Norm, then with Paul. It was a full life—lived wide open and in full color, even into the Alzheimer’s. She will be missed.
Ginny is survived by her loving children, Nanette Ingraham (née Fitzgerald) and her husband, David Ingraham, and Patrick Fitzgerald and his wife, Amy Fitzgerald; her cherished grandchildren, Coltrane Fitzgerald and Liam Ingraham; and her siblings, Naomi Just and the Rev. Christian Just.
A memorial service will be held at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church at the 916 Main St, Hingham, MA on Saturday September 27 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to go out and create something beautiful, sing out loud, or try cooking something new. And don’t forget to laugh.
