There was something eternally youthful about Wanda. She loved young people. She was comfortable among us and made us all feel comfortable and always welcome in her home. She understood us, tolerated our youthful idealism, forgave us for our ignorance. She knew what it was like to be young & foolish. I loved her smile. It lit up the room. I loved her little laugh that said "I'm amused". Great memories of some of the best times of our young lives! Thanks Wanda, Mrs. Alber. Say hi to Carl for me.

Dear Serena, I met your mom 3 times: the first time was in 1969! She was a sweet lady.

I do so love, and always will treasure, dear Wanda. Wanda was intelligent, witty, loving and giving, caring and devoted, creative and talented, classy and direct; all wonderful qualities. Dignity and grace personified. My memories of Wanda and Carl mean a great deal to me, and I am thankful to have been a part of their lives, even if only for a little while. May she rest in peace beside her beloved Carl.

Wanda was one of a kind. I can't ever remember not knowing her. She loved all the important things in life: family, friends, faith, nature, good food and a funny story. When her neighbors were considering whether they wanted a preschool to open in the neighborhood, Wanda bravely wrote to the local paper that she welcomed the school and hoped that she would always live within the sound of children playing. That's the Wanda that I will always fondly remember.

We will all remember Wanda as a classy, intelligent, beautiful woman. We looked forward to her Long Island visits and the many conversations we shared around our dining table. And those wonderful descriptive notes Wanda. I treasure them and am grateful for our friendship and the influence she had on all of us. She will be missed.
