

Wayne was born on January 29, 1939, to Esther and Kenneth Van Buren in Hyannis, MA. After graduating from Barnstable High School, he went on to study Mathematics with a full scholarship at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute earning a BS in Mathematics, continuing to earn his PhD in Mathematics from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he also taught math.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from both Rensselaer and Carnegie Tech, Wayne worked for Westinghouse Research in Pittsburgh for over 30 years. Wayne resided in Pittsburgh for almost 50 years before returning to his beloved Cape Cod in 2004.
Wayne married his high school sweetheart Pat (Houle) Van Buren in 1961. Wayne is survived by his spouse of 60 years, as well as two children, Martin Van Buren (wife Robin), and Karen Van Buren Derksen (husband Pete). Additionally, he is survived by nine grandchildren, Clay Denman, Sarah Derksen-Zhou, Mitch Derksen, Samantha (Derksen) Harper (Evan), Bernie Derksen, Danielle Van Buren, Olivia Van Buren, Colton Derksen, and PJ Derksen, and one great-grandchild Chase Harper.
After returning to the Cape, Wayne spent his time as Treasurer of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society, served on the Sandy Neck Lighthouse committee, and traveled the world with his wife, Pat, visiting all 50 states (48 by car).
